Wandering around Central Zurich
Walked in to a store for kicks
Looking for some local knick knacks
Which I could carry back
Can’t go wrong with chocolate & cheese
So I picked up plenty of these
Then, since my wallet had spare hotch-potch
I thought, hey, why not a watch
In a vast display, I saw Vacheron Constantin
For a few thousand francs, Longines and Ullyse Nardin
Rado, Breguet and Audemars Piguet
And a jewellery encrusted Piaget
If I so desired, a Blancpain or a Boucheron
A Corum, Favre Leuba or an A Lange & Sohn
If I could afford it, a Harry Winston
Or then maybe, an Urban JΓΌrgensen
Boasting perpetual calendars and tourbillons
Dials, and faces showing the constellations
Intricate movements accurate to the nano second
But with prices which left me completely stunned
Some were winners at the Basel Fair
Which quite frankly, I didn’t care
I was a dud at high-luxe horology
I was browsing just to have a look-see
I admired from afar the Carl F Bucherer
Ditto the Tag Heuer and Baume & Mercier
The IWC, Greubel Forsey and the Parmigiani
And even the wares of Roger Dubuis
Complications and chunkiness reeking class
All, discreetly laid out behind well-lit glass
Master watchmakers like Richard Mille
Zenith, Breitling and Raymond Weil
Jaeger Le Coultre, Rolex, Girard Perregaux
Glasshutte, Hublot and Maurice Lacroix
Chopard, Panerai, Jaquet D’Roz and Patek Phillipe
Very attractive, but my pockets weren’t that deep
I envied the exquisite Franck Muller
With it’s crocodile strap and rose gold colour
The Frederique Constant was a sight to behold
To even ask for a chance to try it on, I wasn’t so bold
I was killing time, me a poor tourist
Looking for something simple for my wrist
Finally, I picked up a cheap Swatch made of plastic
And quietly slunk away in a few ticks
