The Wonder of Sanskrit – A Song

You don’t have to know a word of the language – I don’t – simply switch off, immerse yourself and enjoy!

śruti sūkta rucira mālā – (This glorious language Sanskrit) is a beautiful garland of delightful sounds of the Vedas
śata śāstra sūtra mūlā – the source code of hundreds of scriptures and mystical sutras
ṛṣi varya cintanīyā – the object of great rishis’ meditations
surabhāratī suramyā – Sanskrit is the divine language of Bharat (India), so enchanting!

śrī rāma kṛṣṇa līlā – The pastimes and stories of Lord Rama and Krishna
jana hṛdaya haraṇa śīlā – nobly steal the hearts of all mankind
iha puṣpitā ati divyā – they have blossomed here as a divine phenomenon
surabhāratī suramyā – Sanskrit is the divine language of Bharat, so enchanting!

iha nirupamāḥ kavīndrāḥ – Here are incomparable kings of poetry and literature
munīndrāḥ devopamāḥ – great sages comparable to gods
trailokya vandanīyāḥ – those who are to be extolled in the 3 worlds
surabhāratī suramyā – Sanskrit is the divine language of Bharat, so enchanting!

yaḥ garjati bhuvi – The one who proclaims with a roar to the world
bhāratasya mahimā – the magnificence of this land Bharat
īha garīmā – its divine glory
tajjanmadā ati puṇyā – his mother is indeed blessed
surabhāratī suramyā – Sanskrit is the divine language of Bharat, so enchanting!

iyam amita suguṇa dhanyā – this language Sanskrit (and so its land Bharat) is limitlessly full of virtues, and indeed blessed
iyam mānyā akhila vibudha – she is respected by all enlightened people
sevanīyā suhitāya – to be served with devotion by any well-intentioned aspirant
surabhāratī suramyā – Sanskrit is the divine language of Bharat, so enchanting!

      1. You are not alone K ……I am embarrassed too …… We have been gifted with treasures …. heirlooms ….we aren’t putting in use ….and trust me while I was hearing her, I got motivated to start learning Sanskrit shlokas….. So thank you for sharing this
