PATHOS (RADHA’S LAMENT)

Swallows soaring in cerulean skies
Butterflies flitting hither thither
Glorious, invigorating summer sun

Christmases white with carpets of snow
The ensconsing warmth of the hearth
Snowflakes wafting slowly down

Majestic thunderstorms, multihued arcs
The scent of freshly washed mud
The flowering of spring’s first bud

A baby’s smile, a dog’s happy bark
Verdant, undulating greens
The simplest of pleasures the most sublime

Incense infused evenings
Pages of poetic verse, melancholy ballads
Sheets of satin, a down pillow

Turbulent ocean crossings
A dozen wondrous destinations
Enchantment, delight alleviating the incompleteness

Rose petals and lustrous pearls
A sonorous harp, wine and viand
Courting the senses, tempting suppressed desire

Plastic smiles and
suitors with invitations to dance
Empty merriment, strangers with words of mindless wisdom
Exiting offstage when the day is done

Peaks of pleasure, the abyss of pain
Dreams, disappointments, despondency
Time measured in an instant and an age

This I have seen, through this I have been
All this I have enjoyed, embraced with enthusiasm
Experienced, endured with equanimity

And yet more of each I still expect
As I wait for Him
To be here by my side
