Hanuman*

Sit still, o worldly senses
Of simian nature
Hither thither dart thou

Swing not from thought to thought
Tether the mind
Centre thyself
At the midpoint
Stay true
And steadfast over time
And meet the Lord within

  • The monkey god who carries with him Lord Rama in his heart, wherever he goes. One version goes that he’s an allegory for our impatient thoughts which flit from one to another, like monkeys swing from branch to branch, unable to sit still and be focused on the godhead within.

  1. I had never heard the idea that Hanuman symbolises the monkey mind and how our thoughts just keep on keeping on. It makes perfect sense. Thank you very much for sharing this knowledge.
