On Silence

Some say silence is empty
Devoid and bereft

Some say silence is barren, lacking, wanting
But in abandonment, there’s admission and alertness
In slumber, there’s awareness and awakening and arising
In emptiness, is possibility and potential
Silence is observation and understanding and insight
Isolation is exploration and discovery
It is in silence that you can impel your thoughts higher
In silence, you can create, as indeed can you elevate

Some say silence is renunciation
An exile only for the ascetic
But silence is also for the ordinary person
It is the eloquence of the unknown
And the exclamation of the unsaid

In concealment is revelation
In the conscious and deliberate retardation
Regression and relinquishment of words and hearing
Is a talking to, a listening

It is in silence
That you can hear the sound of the mind
Frequencies, channels and unheard energy sources
The ripples of consciousness
The music of the soul
The tingling of the senses
The inner voice, mute but audible

In stillness, calm and placidity
There is to be found profundity
In silence is contemplation, clarity and coherence
In silence is communion, completeness, no limitations
In the fixity of silence, there’s the infinite
In the seclusion of aural stimulation
There is no perturbation
No unquiet agitation
There is absolute peace

In tranquility
Culled of all noise
Is the rhythm of the Universe
You can see vision within
Beauteous sights otherwise unseen by the eye
In silence there is compassion
You can smell the fragrance of love
You can perceive bliss and the blessing of life
Feel the Lord in yourself
Hear the breath resonate in the prana*
In silence is life

Some say silence is a vacant space
An absence
But in silence is also the presence of The Presence
In silence
Is The Word

*The life force which is believed to flow through all living beings

  1. This is absolutely MaGiCaL — Silent Night, as we wait for the Lord to appear in our hearts – what a perfect read.
Soooo deep – i love so many words and phrases that i can’t even list them here – will be the whole poem. Read it a couple of times already. Can feel the vibration of the Himalayas, Mother Ganga.
A Saint once asked – “Do you know what is the language of Shiva?” She answered in a bit, “Silence.”
Can feel that silence and inspiration in your words. Thank YOU! Har Har Mahadev ki Jai! 🙂

  2. This is so very very true. For me, in my life, silence is an essential element, and I spend huge swathes of my day in silence. It is not an enemy but a vriend. And for me, the darkness too, for I am blind. This is an amazung write. I am so glad you followed me, which led me to find your Blog.
