THE PENNY DROPPED

Heavy was his burden:

Yoked to success. Fame. Wealth.
Carrying a load of loving family. Friends.
Sound health. A home.

Even his freedom bore down on him.

And he groaned under the weight
of an unceasing desire for more.

Till he came across an impoverished,
malnutritioned, homeless, orphaned,
immigrant beggar child being bullied
by the security at his gates.

That’s when he broke.

  1. This reminded me of ‘I cried for I had no shoes until I saw a man with no feet’. The analogy may not really be apt but guess what I’m saying is your poem was very thought provoking. And very nicely done, right from the title to the finale.
