Heavy was his burden:
Yoked to success. Fame. Wealth.
Carrying a load of loving family. Friends.
Sound health. A home.
Even his freedom bore down on him.
And he groaned under the weight
of an unceasing desire for more.
Till he came across an impoverished,
malnutritioned, homeless, orphaned,
immigrant beggar child being bullied
by the security at his gates.
That’s when he broke.
Well past where most would, I’d imagine!

This reminded me of ‘I cried for I had no shoes until I saw a man with no feet’. The analogy may not really be apt but guess what I’m saying is your poem was very thought provoking. And very nicely done, right from the title to the finale.

Thank you! Yes, similar in thought. I’m not sure it’s coming across, but it also Mrs from what’s happening in the US right now, courtesy the Donald 😟

A stunner Kunal and we have everything in life and yet we cry but someone who has misfortune befall him and yet he is so cheerful. Loved the simple portrayal too. Great.

Thank you! You’re so right that we look at the unnecessary small things we don’t have, while taking for granted all that we’ve been blessed with.

“Even his freedom bore down on him.” Echoes the line from Hart Crane from Brooklyn Bridge, “Implicitly thy freedom staying thee.”
