The Deliciousness of Words – IX

Continuing the series… Some of the most evocative words are in languages other than English and have no direct equivalents – here are a few Nordic ones, with explanations, for you to savour. 

happiness
A common feature of the Scandinavian countries is a word to describe the feeling of warmth and friendliness that arises from sharing simple pleasures of life with people you like.

The words—koselig (Norwegian), mysa (Swedish), hygge (Danish), and gezellig (Dutch)—convey both physical and emotional comfort, almost like but more than “nice and cozy.”
