IT’S PERSONAL…

I looked at the religion of my birth

There were questions it couldn’t answer

I looked at the religion of oneness

And found that there were many

I looked at religion in the books

They were in a language I couldn’t understand

I looked at religion in a building of stone

There was no cement holding its blocks together

I looked at religion in rituals

It made my prayer into forced habit

I looked at a depiction of God

It was someone I couldn’t recognise

I looked up, questioning the heavens

And then I understood

It wasn’t who or what or how or when

It wasn’t religion at all

It was a relationship

Personal and permanent

Between me and Him
