INSPIRED BY GIBRAN

“If you reveal your secrets to the wind,
you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees.”

I whispered my secret to the four winds

An eavesdropping cloud breezing past, picked it up and ascended heavenward

The wind carried it silently to the trees

Murmuring among themselves, the branches spread the word across the forest

Falling leaves brought the buzz to the earth beneath

And by way of babbling brook, the words carried downstream to the ocean

The gathering voice ferried by the current to worlds beyond the horizon

And passed on by every wave lapping onto new shores

It was heard by faraway sands

And so the whole world and all of Laniakea* now know

Of my love for you

* Hawaiian for immeasurable heaven – the name given by astronomers to the cluster of galaxies within which our Milky Way lies
